Founded in 1947, the Northwest Orchid Society (NWOS) is an affiliate of the American Orchid Society (AOS) and the Orchid Digest Corporation (ODC). We are honored that members of our society were elected to the presidency of both of these national organizations and other members serve both the ODC and AOS in important capacities. The NWOS welcomes both beginner and experienced orchid growers who would like to learn more about this fascinating hobby and meet other people with similar interests to join us at our monthly meetings.
Membership: Annual dues of $25 for a single membership or $30 for a joint membership are due every July 1. Those who join after March 1 are paid through June 30 of the following year. A joint membership consists of two persons residing at the same address. They will receive one newsletter and one vote in all elections.
Monthly Meetings: The regular monthly meeting is held the second Monday of each month (except August whose time and place are announced at the June meeting). The meetings begin at 7:00 P.M. at the Center for Urban Horticulture (map in Adobe Acrobat Reader .pdf format). Our meetings feature informative programs, orchid exhibits, plant raffles and sales, auctions, and friendly people!
Monthly Bulletin: Each month members receive a Northwest Orchid Society Newsletter with information on the activities of the society, orchid events in the Northwest and usually some information on the care and culture of orchids.
Plant Sales Table: Members may bring a maximum of 5 orchid plants or compots to the monthly meeting (except June and the auction meeting) to sell. Fifteen percent of money collected goes to the Society. Although only members may sell plants, anyone in attendance may purchase plants.
Orchid Auction: One of our monthly meetings is devoted to an auction of orchid plants. It is a chance for members to sell "surplus" plants and to add new ones to their collection.
Orchid Advisors: The NWOS publishes in the Newsletter the names of members willing to receive telephone inquiries regarding orchid problems.
Annual Show: The Northwest Orchid Society sponsors an annual AOS judged show which is open to the public. Invited orchid vendors from across the U.S. bring plants to display and sell.
Library of Orchid Publications: The NWOS maintains a library of orchid books, videotapes, and periodicals available for member use by arrangement with the Society Librarian.
Orchid Exhibits: At our monthly meetings there is an exhibition table where members can display their blooming plants.  During the meeting a member does the “plant table walk”, points out unusual, interesting, or exceptionally well-grown plants and asks some of the growers for information about their plants and growing conditions.
